On a volunteer basis, the Orinda Arts Council organizes and curates the exhibits in the Orinda Library Art Gallery for the City of Orinda. The shows primarily highlight local artists or displays of educational/community interest and are changed every month. The pieces on display will be by the 24 gallery members, and will be for sale. The show will be free, and will be held at the gallery, 50 Lafayette Circle. Also, the Lafayette Sculpture Garden is now open for the summer. The Sculpture Garden is unique in the Bay Area, filled with works that vary from the whimsical to the earthy to the elegant, all in a gorgeous outdoor setting.

That was the case at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek recently, when the magical tale was spun before me again in a bittersweet fashion, as I realized many of those on stage were three or four generations removed from Runyon’s original stories. Still, it is an excellent production, from the colorful, evocative set by Kelly Tighe to the classic music played by the orchestra directed by Matt Smart and sung by the cast led by director-choreographer Kikau Alvaro for the Diablo Theatre Company.
