— Robert Taylor, Correspondent. It’s been five years since Rockstar Games released a new title. That’s an eternity for players. Blame that on the huge success of “Grand Theft Auto V” and its online component that extended the life of that project. With the pent up demand, expect a ridiculous amount of anticipation for “Red Dead Redemption 2,” due out this spring. The sequel still takes place in the Wild West, but this time it follows a protagonist named Arthur Morgan, who is part of the Dutch van der Linde gang. That’s the same crew the previous protagonist, John Marston, joined.

Oakland Ballet Company: Drawing on the original E.T.A. Hoffmann short story that launched the Nutcracker juggernaut on its eventual conquest of American stages, Oakland Ballet’s Graham Lustig set his “Nutcracker” in turn-of-the-century Vienna. While the production premiered with New Jersey’s American Repertory Ballet in 2000, it feels tailor-made for the Paramount Theatre’s glittery Art Deco finery. With the Michael Morgan-directed Oakland Symphony and the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir joining the orchestra for the Snow Scene, the graceful production features more than 40 young Bay Area dancers (aged 7 to 17) performing alongside the company’s professionals as snowballs, mice, soldiers and candies. Details: 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 22 and 1 p.m. Dec. 23; Paramount Theatre, Oakland; $24-$97; 510-893-3132, oaklandballet.org.
